Course of Architecture
This qualification is an industry endorsed credential for people who would like to gain employment as drafters of residential projects working under the supervision of an Architect, Builder or Building Designer. This is qualification is based on an assessment tasks focus of a person’s work.
One year (or equivalent hours P/T). Part-time study is only available to local students.
THIS COURSE IS ACCREDITED BY THE /AUSTRALIAN SKILLS QUALITY AUTHORITY/ (/ASQA/).
This qualification requires a minimum of year 11 completion and an entry interview/test.
In circumstances where it is considered that a learner’s language and/or literacy skills may not be at the required level, assistance may be given in the form of a tutor during studio time.
The program will be delivered on campus and will be face-to-face delivery. OPIE provides students with learning support assistance through access to resources such as the library and learning materials.
The training program covers 13 units of competency taken from the Qualification. There are 12 core units and 1 unit may be chosen from the elective list, to the value of 40 or 50 hours.
A range of assessment strategies is employed for this qualification and the choice of strategy is dependent on the nature of the unit of competency. Strategies may include but not limit demonstrations, observation, projects, presentations, knowledge tests, reports and interviews.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Students are able to apply for recognition of prior learning for individual units of competency.
UUnits from this qualification that are also contained in other qualifications recognised under the AQF will be recognised for credit transfer purposes.
A student may exit from this qualification at any time with a Statement of Attainment for any units of competency completed successfully up to that point.
Students are issued with learning materials and handouts relevant to each unit.
This qualification can lead to a Diploma of Building design.
On successful completion of the Certificate IV Residential Drafting a graduate may apply for employment as a Building or Architectural Drafter.

Students successfully completing the Certificate may apply for membership at various levels to the Building Designers Association of Australia and the Institute for Drafting & Design of Australia.
