COURSE OUTCOMES

The course covers building theory and drafting related to low rise residential scale buildings.
Graduates will have developed further specialist skills and knowledge in Construction Technology, Working Drawings, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Editing Standard Specifications, Office Practice – including quality assurance.

Occupational Areas
On successful completion of the Certificate IV Residential Drafting a graduate may apply for employment as a Building or Architectural Drafter.

COURSE STRUCTURE

To obtain the Certificate IV in Residential Drafting graduates must complete all core and elective Modules as set down in the course structure, and a total of 75 days Practical Experience.

Modules are often packaged and offered in different forms to coordinate and cater the needs of students. Each module specifies nominal hours and may be adjusted for individual student group needs.

MEMBERSHIPS / AFFILIATIONS

Students successfully completing the Certificate may apply for membership at various levels to the Building Designers Association of Australia and the Institute for Drafting & Design of Australia

ARTICULATION AND CREDIT TRANSFER

There are currently articulation arrangements in place, for graduates based on the existing courses in Drafting into the Degree courses at Adelaide University and the University of South Australia in Architecture. Since this is a National curriculum, students will be able to start a course in one State and complete it in another State, with no cost of credit transfer for the Modules completed. Students who successfully complete the Certificate IV of Residential Drafting become eligible for entry into the Diploma of Building Design and Technology. Students who successfully complete the Certificate IV in Residential Drafting may also be eligible for internal transfer to the Bachelor of Architecture Degree offered at OPIE.

Graduates will have developed further specialist skills and knowledge in Design, Problem solving, Construction Technology, Full Project Documentation, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Project Administration and Office Practice – including quality assurance.

On successful completion of the Diploma of Building Design and Technology a graduate may apply for employment as a Building Designer or Architectural Technician.

COURSE STRUCTURE

To obtain the Diploma of Building Design and Technology graduates must complete all modules of the Certificate IV in Residential Drafting, and the additional modules specific to the Diploma, including the additional Architectural practice experience module and elective subjects as outlined below:

and administration.

Occupational Areas

On successful completion of the Advanced Diploma of Building Design & Project Administration a graduate may apply for employment as an Architectural Technician, Project Team leader and Building Designer.
